Chief Margaret Eliott will be GUEST OF HONOR at the 41st Stone Mountain Highland Games (SMHG), October 18-20, 2013 near Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
There is a sense of history to the occasion as the Elliot Clan USA was founded at Stone Mountain in 1977 when Chief Margaret’s father, Sir Arthur Eliott, was Guest of Honor.
Atlanta is a major city and is home to Coca Cola, CNN TV, Centennial Olympic Park, the world’s biggest aquarium, and a zoo with five pandas, to mention a few tourist attractions. Stone Mountain is a nearby state park featuring the world’s largest carved mountainside.
SMHG, nicknamed “Scots On The Rock”, is one of the USA’s most popular Scottish festivals and hosts around 30,000 visitors. There will be over 100 clan tents, and the Massed Band contains 500+ pipers and drummers.
As HONORED CLAN, the Elliots are privileged to occupy a huge tent and private viewing area at the front of the parade field, offering splendid views of athletic competitions, band performances, and many demonstrations.
The Elliot Clan will convene their ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING on Saturday in a reserved pavilion at the Games, all Elliot members are encouraged to attend. On Saturday evening, a CLAN BANQUET with a micropub and ‘Down Home Southern Buffet’ will be held at a park hotel. Banquet reservations are required by September 27. After dinner, the famous Stone Mountain laser show takes place directly across the street. This music and fireworks spectacular uses the granite mountain as a giant animation screen.
SMHG events span three days and the schedule is online. Advance tickets to the Games and hotel events can be ordered online at a discount. The Clan has arranged for a limited number of discounted hotel rooms at two locations, reserve promptly since SMHG fills all nearby hotels and campgrounds.
