Chief Margaret’s address to the Clans

The 2009 International Gathering of the Clans gave people the opportunity to visit with many different clans.

As chief of Clan Elliot, Margaret Eliott stood out at the great Gathering of the clans in Edinburgh as one of only seven lady chiefs in attendance, and gave the following speech to her kin.

    just a hello to the Elliott clan from Arizona. Col. Richard Smith Elliott was my gr gr grandfather. He wrote “Elliott’s Notes” which has origins of Elliott information in it. Others wrote books about him like The Mexican War Correspondence of Richard Smith Elliott and True West magazine. He was affiliated as Commander with the Laclede Rangers and Mormon Battalion as Colonel with Gen. Stephen Watts Kearny Army of the West. He was a lawyer and military commander. Gen. Kearny’s lawyers wrote “Kearny’s Code” which morphed into the first governing document of Arizona and New Mexico. Col. Elliott’s brother wrote “Last Raid of the Dalton Gang” when he was editor of the Coffeyville Kansas Journal. I am from Kearny, Az. One of my sisters is Senator Barbara McGuire in Who’s Who of American Polticians. Let us know about future clan gathering and I will post it here for our family. I am on Facebook. Hello!
    I’ve moved from Tennessee to Oklahoma. Just wanted to stay in touch. . . If you remember, I was the person who calculated the return-to-earth trajectory that brought the Apollo 13 astronauts safely back home from the moon. I would like to visit Scotland this year. What would be the most appropriate time of the year weatherwise to come? Thanks.

    Dearest Maam;
    I would like to take a minute to say i am proud to be able to address you. I am in the US Army 1st cav div here in Ft Hood Texas and and have held a long pride set fourth by my very middle name i have been wounded in battle seven times and have recived the purple heart for wounds in combat in Iraq. I come from Illionis from a hard working family that pushed me to be the best at anything i ever put my mind to and to be proud of who we are. Our family owns most of the town , bank and stores are run by the Elliotts or Elliots both members of the same bunch. As i run in to more Elliotts i tell them to look up there name and where it comes from.Hopefully after i retire next year and have time i will take part of a gathering of the clans

    In 1833 my branch of the Scotts left Jedburgh for Canada. One of them Robert, had his wife come the next year. Her name was Margaret Elliott. I am blessed today to live in Jeonju South Korea and one of my best friends is Victoria Elliott.(family from Glasgow) How I love this small world. We still have the the letters that went back and forth from canada to scotland

    Dad and I, are heading to the Borders in 2013; our Elliots came from Lariston. The message that was handed down: ‘Never forget that we are the Elliots of Lariston’. Our ‘Y’ Chromosome is L2*.

    Coming to Scotland with my son in September. We plan touring the area and hope to visit the Elliot Clan headquarters if possible. Do we need to make arrangements ahead of time? My husband (now deceased) submitted his DNA to the Elliot project and found that his distant ancesters came from the Borders Region of Scotland. My son wants to see this land for himself. I am looking forward to introducing this fine young man of 25 to his heritage. Thank you
