Friday 25th August 2023
A shuttle bus will run from Newcastleton Douglas Square to Redheugh and back from 10.30am as there is nowhere to park the car. If you are disabled please apply for a special parking place at the farm.
House open 10.30 am. Coffee and teas from the WRI. Demonstration of dry stone walling (dyking) by John Elliot, Stick dressing (Rob and Kate Elliot), the Liddesdale Reivers with Derek Stuart. Lynn’s Loom (Lynn Elliot), Elliot shop and Clan Room.
Barbecue 12.30 – 2pm.
Gathering 2pm – 4pm. Falconry and pipes, sheep dogs demonstrations.
Evening event – to be arranged.
Saturday 26th August
Suggested Morning visits to Heritage Centre, Hermitage Castle.
HOLM SHOW from 11am all day. Local agricultural show.
Sunday 27th August
Coach Tour – 9.00 am pick up, Newcastleton to Kirkandrews on Esk
church service. Tour will include lunch, Caerlaverock Castle, Gilnockie
Peel Tower returning to Newcastleton by 6pm.
NB: The above arrangements may be subject to some changes but the
basic outline will stay the same.
Dress Code: Be prepared for a damp wet day, especially the feet.
Wear plenty of tartan.
Travel: This is a rural area with little or no public bus service, so wheels
are important. A good road map rather than satellite navigation is
Nearest Train station: Carlisle main line 40 mins, Tweedbank
(only from Edinburgh 1 hour away).
Airport: Newcastle, Edinburgh or Glasgow (2 hours).
